Summer 2017 Sunday School Electives
Classes start June 4th. Sign up sheets are available now in the CE wing hall.
DIGGING DEEP IN GOD'S WORD
Explore the richness of Scripture through an inductive manuscript study of Genesis chapters 1-3 and (time permitting) Mark chapter 1. We will gain a deeper understanding of these familiar passages as we consider the structure of a passage, definitions of words, original Hebrew and Greek meanings, and cultural contexts. This will be an interactive class helping people to learn how to do this method of Bible study for themselves. In order to have meaningful discussion during class time, some homework will be necessary. Please bring a standard box of colored pencils (12 count).

SUFFERING AND GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY
All people experience suffering and sorrow, yet our responses to suffering often vary widely. As we grapple with the hardships and sorrows that accompany life in this fallen world, it is crucial that we build our understanding of human suffering and divine sovereignty on the firm foundation of Scripture. In this powerful teaching series, Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr. shares poignant stories from his own life as he presents important scriptural teachings about God’s role in human suffering.

GOSPEL-CENTERED LIFE by Robert H. Thune and Will Walker
We know that God saves us through the work of Christ on the cross for us, but many of us struggle to see how this applies to the nitty-gritty of our daily lives. God’s love shown on the cross has the power to transform how we view ourselves, how we face disappointment, how we deal with conflicts in our homes and workplaces, and so much more. Not a pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps approach, rather, a discovery of how Jesus’ death on the cross can bring hope, joy and freedom to our lives today as we realize that God’s love for us really does change everything. If you want to gain a practical understanding of how the gospel can allow you to live in greater joy and freedom in your day-to-day life, please join us.

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY
Financial Peace University gives a very practical plan for applying biblical principles to personal finances. We will begin on June 4, with Pastor Greg giving an overview of the Bible’s teachings on financial matters. The Dave Ramsey course itself will begin the following week, June 11, and will go for nine weeks. The average family taking the course pays off $5,300 of debt in the first 90 days, and saves an additional $2,700. Whether you are doing great with money management, or find yourself overwhelmed, we can always improve. Please sign up at the table the sanctuary hallway. Being wise with finances takes dedication, and to reflect that necessary commitment, the cost of the course is $100 per family, which all goes to Ramsey Solutions. FUPC will pick up half the cost, and additional scholarship funds are available for another $25 per family, if needed. Please make out your check to FUPC for $50 (or $25 if you would like to access the supplemental funds), and write "Financial Peace University" in the memo line. Please note that this is payment for course materials, and is not a tax-deductible contribution. Facilitated by Pastor Greg
